The Ondo State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of a notorious criminal popularly known as “Officer Koi,” whose reign of terror in Idanre and its environs came to an abrupt end following a swift and intelligence driven Police operation. Details below

Feared Hoodlum “Officer Koi” Finally Nabbed in Idanre After Violent Rampage — Ondo Police Recover Weapons

The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that operatives attached to Idanre Division have arrested two armed suspects involved in a violent attack that left three persons injured in Idanre town. The swift operation followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of October 6, 2025, at about 0725hrs.

Investigation revealed that one Abimbo Rotimi, male, aged 35 years, popularly known as “Officer Koi”—a notorious drug peddler, armed robber, cultist, and recidivist known for violent crimes who has long terrorized Idanre and its environs—and his accomplice, Joseph Innocent, male, aged 28 years, both residents of Ehinpeti Street, behind White House, Idanre, invaded an Indomie shop owned by one Henry (surname yet unknown) and a house belonging to Abimbola Sunday along the same street.

Armed with a locally made pistol, knife, and other dangerous weapons, they attacked the occupants, inflicting various injuries: Henry was stabbed on the fingers, Abimbola Sunday sustained a bite injury on her lower lip, while Akinduko Akinbobola, a commercial motorcyclist, was stabbed on the head.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Idanre Division, swiftly led a team of surveillance operatives to the scene. Although the suspects had fled before their arrival, a prompt intelligence-driven manhunt led to their arrest and the recovery of:

One locally made pistol

One kitchen knife

Two pairs of scissors

One axe

The victims were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, while the suspects remain in custody, assisting investigators with useful information.

The case has since been duly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the professionalism and swift response of the Idanre Divisional Police team, describing their action as a reflection of the operational excellence inspired by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM. He noted that the success aligns with the IGP’s Renewed Hope Policing Agenda, which emphasizes intelligence-led operations, community partnership, and proactive crime prevention across the country.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to the Police to enhance security across the state.
