SWAN @60: Ogbonnaya Dedicates Distinguished Service Award to Aiyedatiwa, Assures Continued Support for Sports Writers
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Friday marked its 60th anniversary in grand style, honouring distinguished personalities who have contributed immensely to sports development across the country.
Among the honourees was the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association (ODSFA), Divine Ogbonnaya, who received the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding support to SWAN and his efforts in promoting grassroots sports, particularly football, in Ondo State.
The colourful ceremony, held in Abuja, brought together veteran sports journalists, administrators, and top government officials to celebrate six decades of impactful journalism and partnership in sports promotion.
Dedicating the award to the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Ogbonnaya said the honour reflected the governor’s commitment to repositioning sports in the state.
> “This recognition shows that the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa is on the right path in promoting sports development, especially at the grassroots level,” he said. “I also appreciate the leadership of SWAN for acknowledging our modest efforts. It is an encouragement to continue to do more for sports and football development.”
Ogbonnaya reaffirmed his continued support for the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, assuring that the partnership between ODSFA and SWAN would remain strong.
He also expressed optimism that Sunshine Stars would perform impressively in the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) season, which begins on November 8.
