Adegbonmire Launches Major Empowerment Programme Across Ondo Central

Senator Distributes Tools, Supports Schools, Pays Tribute to Late Father

By EERC, Akure Tuesday, December 9, 2025

Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN) on Monday rolled out an extensive empowerment initiative for constituents in the Ondo Central Senatorial District, distributing economic tools and educational materials aimed at boosting livelihoods and supporting local schools.

The event, held at The Dome in Akure, attracted party leaders, community representatives, and thousands of beneficiaries.

Items distributed included tricycles, motorcycles, dryers, wheelchairs, grinding machines, sewing equipment, industrial machines, generators, and freezers. Students from Fiwasaye Grammar School, Epe Community Grammar School, Olofin Grammar School, Idanre, Eji Oba High School, and others received notebooks, bags, and supplies.

“I Have Been Given; I Will Continue to Give,” Says Adegbonmire

In his remarks, Senator Adegbonmire clarified misconceptions surrounding the last election, stressing that he was “soundly defeated,” not merely conceding voluntarily. He expressed gratitude for the support that later led him to the Senate.

He apologized for arriving late, emphasizing that punctuality remains his usual habit.

The senator became emotional as he dedicated the day to his late father, recalling how the elder Adegbonmire was denied a scholarship in the 1950s despite excelling academically. The humiliation, he said, propelled his father into politics—eventually founding a party and defeating the same council chairman who once rejected him.

“He is the reason I am in politics,” Adegbonmire told attendees, asking the hall to rise in his honour.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continuous empowerment, noting that the next phase—scheduled for early next year—will focus on schools and include the distribution of 150 laptops.

Aiyedatiwa Applauds Initiative

Governor’s Representative: “This Affirms Dignity and Unlocks Potential”

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, represented by Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, praised Senator Adegbonmire’s empowerment drive as an example of “leadership rooted in service, compassion, and tangible impact.”

Aiyedatiwa described the programme as timely and reflective of the enduring bond between leaders and the people who place their trust in them.

“This is more than a distribution of items,” he said. “It is the affirmation of dignity, the unlocking of potential, and the strengthening of communities.”

He noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that governance must translate into real opportunities for citizens. Beneficiaries were urged to make the most of the tools given, building “stories of success” across Ondo Central.

The governor’s representative repeatedly commended Senator Adegbonmire, calling the gesture a testament to his dedication to his constituents.

APC Chairman Commends Senator’s Commitment

Adetimehin: “Akure Now Has a Teaching Hospital Through His Efforts”

Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Chairman of the APC in Ondo State, lauded Senator Adegbonmire (SAN) for his developmental strides and generosity.

He noted that political gatherings provide crucial space to acknowledge achievements and expressed satisfaction that all attendees would receive something meaningful from the programme. Adetimehin highlighted the establishment of a teaching hospital in Akure—made possible through Adegbonmire’s influence—addressing what he described as a long-standing gap in the Southwest region.

Calling the senator a role model and mentor, he added: “Anyone without a mentor lacks guidance.” He prayed for continued strength for the senator in serving his people.
