Police Arrest Suspect as Cult-Related Killing Rocks Owo

Date: 17th December, 2025.

A 25-year-old man has been killed in a suspected cult-related attack in Owo, Ondo State, prompting a swift police operation that led to the arrest of one suspect.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred on December 14, 2025, at Shine Villa, Opomulero Street, following a distress call reporting violent activities by suspected cultists. The victim, identified as Ayodele Peter, was allegedly attacked after the assailants forcefully gained entry into the premises.

Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene in a rapid, intelligence-led response. Ayodele was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where he was later confirmed dead.

Following the incident, the Command launched a coordinated manhunt for those responsible, resulting in the arrest of one suspect who is currently in custody and assisting investigators with useful information. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be at large.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, said the prompt response demonstrated the Command’s improved operational readiness and capacity for timely intervention.

The Commissioner reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, particularly during and after the festive period. He directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to remain vigilant and proactive, ensuring robust security coverage across the state.

CP Lawal also acknowledged the strategic leadership and continued support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, whose reforms and technological initiatives have strengthened policing effectiveness in Ondo State.

The Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities, emphasizing that public support remains crucial to achieving a safer society.
