Ondo North Senatorial District: The Need For Merit And Legislative Experience

There is a growing consensus in Ondo North that the incumbent Senator has underperformed. It started as words in homes and street corners, now it’s being said in worship places, markets and village squares. The general feeling among the people is that they have been shortchanged, deprived and neglected.

The performance of the incumbent Senator is so poor that even his close aides confess in private communications that the best of our Pastor Senator is not good enough for the people of Ondo North.

A few days ago, a group of stakeholders from the Senatorial District made a passionate appeal that our distinguished incumbent should not bother to seek re-election. They lamented that his two and a half years in the Senate indicated that the Senator does not have a clue on what to do with the opportunities availed by the Senate and his Chairmanship of Committees. In an environment where deliberate maneuvering and strategic manipulation are adjudged right, our distinguished only represents the district in name and not through actions. The spokesman for the stakeholders, Comrade Abiola Momodu lamented that the incumbent Senator representing Ondo North has failed the Senatorial District because he is neither vibrant enough to network at the highest echelons of government nor humble enough to relate well with constituents, hence, he offers no value at both ends of the spectrum. He concluded that the Senate has only afforded him the opportunity to add a chieftaincy title to his name.

Before now, the media aides of our distinguished had only one argument to support their campaign for his re-election… Zoning. Not performance. Within the last one week, President Tinubu has used his presidential pen to nullify this argument by nominating a brilliant son from our Senator’s federal constituency as a Minister. That would be the second Minister from our Senator’s immediate domain. Within the same week, PBAT deployed two eminent sons of Ondo South as Ambassadors to the UN and Russia… two of the most sought after diplomatic postings. With these actions, PBAT has told the world that what matters is competence and not zoning. In any case, If zoning is to be a consideration, our incumbent is no longer qualified to contest since his homestead is now too top heavy politically. And if competence is the main consideration, his performance over the last two and a half years is an embarrassing albatross.

The Nigerian Senate is a place where good education, previous work experience, legislative experience and social contacts are bundled as a premium. The good people of Ondo North have been lamenting over the past thirty four months that they were shortchanged. Given this experience, it is certainly not in the best interest of the people to experiment with another rookie or backbencher. So, for Ondo North Senatorial District, it should be a straight quest for legislative experience and competence rather than an appeal for clannish consideration.

Given the established poor performance of the incumbent Senator, what options are open to the people of Ondo North? Who among the field of aspirants vying to replace the incumbent offers the Senatorial District the best value proposition? Who among them has the legislative experience to bring the best value to Ondo North? Who among them is certain to arrive the Senate Chambers ready for top tier legislative engagements?

In the crowded field of aspirants, one man stands out for his good education, previous work experience, legislative experience, networking ability, brilliance and ability to think on his feet as well as humility and respect for constituents. That man is Hon. Adejoro Adeogun.

Adejoro Adeogun represents a paradigm shift in legislative representation and service delivery. His exposure, intelligence, knowledge of legislative duties, ability to effectively manage resources, as well as developmental foresight stand him out. He was tried and tested when he represented Akoko South East/South West Federal constituency in the 9th Assembly.

Like a beacon of hope, his four years in the green chambers was marked by excellent service delivery and articulate protestation. He delivered on needed infrastructure and made the constituents proud through articulate legislative advocacy. Adeogun’s broad mindedness, humility, approachability and love for quality service delivery makes him a good fit for the Senate and the best person to give Ondo North a voice in the Senate and attracted needed Federal Government interventions to the Senatorial District.

An Ondo North where deliberate development and progress can be achieved is possible only if we send someone who knows his onions. The right man for such yeoman’s job is Hon Ade Adeogun. He is an excellent fit.
