The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on some media platforms claiming that four bandits were arrested at the Akure Airport, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the command clarified that no such arrest took place at the airport and that there was no security breach at the facility.
According to the police, the command instead acted on credible intelligence provided by a concerned citizen about the activities of suspected kidnappers around the Eleyewo axis of Akure.
The police said operatives immediately launched a targeted operation in the area, which led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be logistics suppliers for kidnapping operations within the state.
Preliminary investigations, the command said, revealed that the suspects were involved in providing support for kidnapping activities. They have reportedly made confessional statements that are currently assisting investigators in tracking down other members of the criminal network.
The command urged members of the public to disregard reports alleging that bandits were arrested at the airport, noting that such claims are capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
It further assured the public that security around critical infrastructure, including the airport, remains intact and uncompromised, encouraging residents to continue their lawful activities without fear.
The police also commended citizens for their vigilance and cooperation, reiterating their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
