3rd May, 2016.
The Indigenous People of Ilaje Development Union (IPOIDU) has called for greater unity, participation, and strategic planning among its members worldwide as it intensifies efforts toward hosting the proposed “Ilaje Day” and advancing key developmental initiatives.
At a virtual meeting held on May 3, 2026, which brought together members across Nigeria and the diaspora, leaders of the union emphasized the need for collective responsibility, urging members to contribute not only financially but also through ideas, skills, and professional expertise.
Speakers at the meeting stressed that the success of the initiative depends on active involvement, noting that the union is open to all Ilaje sons and daughters willing to contribute to the progress of the community. They encouraged members to expand outreach efforts by inviting more stakeholders to join the platform.
The meeting highlighted ongoing preparations, including plans to finalize documentation processes, develop a functional website, and produce promotional materials such as flyers. The website, described as critical to the union’s operations, is expected to facilitate registration and communication among members globally.
Organisers disclosed that a draft flyer has been approved and is set for printing, while efforts are underway to secure sponsorships and funding for upcoming projects. Members were also informed of plans to engage key stakeholders through formal visits and consultations, including a proposed meeting with the state governor.
In addition, the union revealed intentions to host a world press conference to formally unveil its programmes, followed by a general meeting where new members will be registered and executive officers elected. Registration, according to the union, is open to all Ilaje individuals aged 18 and above.
Discussions during the meeting also touched on the need for accountability and stronger engagement from leadership, with some members calling for more active participation from key figures within the organisation.
Participants underscored the importance of transparency in financial dealings, urging members to properly document expenditures and work through designated channels.
While expressing optimism about the union’s progress, contributors noted that increased membership would ease financial pressure and enhance the capacity to deliver impactful projects.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to unity, grassroots mobilisation, and sustained engagement, as members pledged to work collectively toward the success of “Ilaje Day” and broader development goals for Ilaje land.
