APC Primary Screening Raises Tension in Owo/Ose Ahead of Poll

The screening process for the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency has generated tension within the party following reports that some aspirants may not scale through the exercise ahead of the poll.
Party sources said concerns were raised during the screening of a number of aspirants, including Hon. Ayodeji Arowele and Lekan Olotu, although the APC screening committee has yet to release any official list of cleared or disqualified candidates.
Sources within the party alleged that petitions were submitted against some aspirants during the exercise, a development said to have heightened consultations among stakeholders in Owo and Ose local government areas.
Another aspirant, Hon. Dr. Adeyemi Olayemi, popularly known as “Koko,” has also attracted public attention following discussions surrounding a university reportedly linked to him in the Benin Republic.
The institution, West African Union University, was among schools listed in a 2023 advisory by the National Universities Commission warning Nigerians against patronising unapproved foreign institutions.
Observers noted that the institution’s website is currently inaccessible, while discussions over the status of the school have continued among party members and residents within the constituency.
Despite the speculations, none of the affected aspirants has been officially declared disqualified by the party, while the APC screening committee has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
Efforts to reach some of the aspirants for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
