The Ondo State Government has thrown its weight behind the nationwide #UniteAgainstTerror campaign, urging Nigerians from all walks of life to unite in the fight against terrorism and violent crimes across the country.
The Government’s position follows the recent conviction and sentencing of individuals connected to the June 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, which resulted in the loss of several innocent lives and sent shockwaves across the nation. While describing the court’s decision as a major milestone in the pursuit of justice, the Government stressed that ending terrorism requires continuous vigilance and collective action from citizens.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa said the campaign presents an opportunity for Nigerians to stand together against terrorism, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations. He emphasized that national security should remain a shared responsibility, urging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
“When we see something, we must say something,” the Governor stated, calling for increased public participation in intelligence gathering and community security efforts.
The Ondo State Government commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies for their dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting lives and maintaining the country’s territorial integrity.
The Government further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, civil society groups, community associations, media practitioners, and other stakeholders to actively support the #UniteAgainstTerror campaign. It noted that broad public engagement would help strengthen security awareness, improve intelligence sharing, and deny criminal elements opportunities to operate within communities.
Reaffirming its commitment to all lawful measures aimed at enhancing national security, the Government urged citizens to remain vigilant, responsible, and proactive in safeguarding their communities.
According to the Government, only through unity, cooperation, and sustained action can Nigeria overcome terrorism and build a safer future for all.
