Dangote Unveils Plan for Massive Industrial Zone in Ondo, Construction Set for Late 2026

15th June, 2026
The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to establish what is expected to become Nigeria’s largest industrial and free trade zone in Olokola, Ondo State, with construction scheduled to commence in the last quarter of 2026.
Dangote disclosed this during a visit to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in Akure on Monday, where he outlined a comprehensive investment programme that includes power generation, gas infrastructure, cement production and industrial manufacturing.
According to him, the proposed Olokola Industrial Zone will be developed as a fully serviced investment hub, equipped with dedicated power supply, water facilities and logistics infrastructure to enable manufacturers and investors to operate efficiently without the usual challenges associated with utilities.
He explained that the project is aimed at addressing Nigeria’s persistent power challenges, which he described as a major obstacle to industrial growth for decades. The industrial zone, he said, will incorporate an independent energy framework, including gas infrastructure linked to an east-west gas corridor, to support industrial activities.
Dangote noted that previous efforts to develop projects in Olokola were hampered by operational constraints, forcing the company to concentrate major investments in Lagos. He, however, expressed confidence that improved conditions and collaboration with the Ondo State Government would ensure the success of the renewed initiative.
The billionaire industrialist revealed that contractors are expected to mobilise to the project site within the next three to four months, while discussions are ongoing to ensure government participation in the venture through representation on the board of the industrial zone.
He added that the project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, attract local and foreign investments, and stimulate economic growth across Ondo State and neighbouring regions.
Responding, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the investment as a major boost to the state’s industrialisation drive and economic development agenda. He said the project aligns with efforts to position Ondo as a leading industrial and investment destination in the South-West.
The governor highlighted the state’s strategic location along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway corridor, its deep seaport licence, and the availability of industrial-grade limestone deposits as key advantages that would support the success of the project.
Aiyedatiwa also disclosed that a technical committee has been established to engage with the Dangote Group on land, legal, operational and community-related matters, assuring investors of the state’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for the project’s successful implementation.
The meeting was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Dr Olayide Adelami, members of the State Executive Council, and officials of the Ondo State Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA).
