Oyebanji Makes History, Secures Second Term with Landslide Victory in Ekiti

Ado-Ekiti – Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election, making him the first sitting governor in the state’s history to secure re-election.
The State Returning Officer, Adenike Oladiji, announced the result on Sunday morning after the completion of collation across the state’s 16 local government areas.
Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to record a resounding victory over his closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 40,543 votes. Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress came third with 12,872 votes.
Declaring the outcome, Oladiji said Oyebanji satisfied all constitutional requirements, having scored the highest number of lawful votes cast in the election.
According to the electoral commission, a total of 384,940 voters were accredited for the election, while 382,109 votes were cast. Of these, 375,777 were valid votes.
The APC candidate dominated all 16 local government areas of the state, recording impressive margins in major voting centres, including Ado-Ekiti with 38,026 votes, Irepodun/Ifelodun with 29,278 votes, Ekiti West with 28,258 votes, Ikole with 26,508 votes, Ekiti East with 26,359 votes, and Ijero with 25,506 votes.

Emure: APC – 14,325; PDP – 851; ADC – 732.
Efon: APC – 8,742; PDP – 2,051; ADC – 201.
Ijero: APC – 25,506; PDP – 2,479; ADC – 2,026.
Ikere: APC – 11,116; PDP – 9,892; ADC – 245.
Ekiti South-West: APC – 14,705; PDP – 1,800; ADC – 1,076.
Ido-Osi: APC – 17,901; PDP – 1,449; ADC – 561.
Ekiti West: APC – 28,258; PDP – 3,644; ADC – 674.
Ado: APC – 38,026; PDP – 3,817; ADC – 1,054.
Ilejemeje: APC – 8,984; PDP – 1,243; ADC – 579.
Ise/Orun: APC – 12,908; PDP – 1,627; ADC – 365.
Oye: APC – 18,975; PDP – 2,891; ADC – 998.

With the victory, Oyebanji is set to begin a second term in office after receiving a renewed mandate from Ekiti voters.
