The Ondo State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a strong warning to residents, urging them to avoid the dangerous practice of scooping fuel from overturned tankers. Such actions are highly risky and often lead to fatal explosions.

In a recent press release, the State Director of the Ondo NOA, Mr. James Adekunle, expressed grave concern over the tragic incident in Dikko, Niger State, where several lives were lost, including those of women and children, who were scooping fuel from a fallen tanker.

Mr. Adekunle highlighted the rising number of fuel-related accidents and the preventable deaths resulting from explosions during fuel scooping incidents. He emphasized the importance of safety and responsible behavior in such situations.

“Scooping spilled fuel is a ticking time bomb,” said Mr. Adekunle. “It poses a significant risk of explosion and fire. We must take immediate action to avoid such tragedies. Our responsibility is to ensure the safety of ourselves, our families, and our communities.”

The Director urged the public to move as far away from tanker accident scenes as possible and immediately contact emergency responders to handle the situation. He also called on tanker drivers nationwide to exercise caution and professionalism, particularly when navigating difficult routes, to prevent such accidents.
