OAUSTECH VC Implements New Minimum Wage, Pays Arrears, Boosts Staff Morale

Admin. 1st March, 2025

In a decisive move to enhance staff welfare, the Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, has successfully implemented the new minimum wage for staff, effective from February 2025. This long-awaited decision follows months of advocacy from university staff, marking a significant milestone in addressing their concerns.

Since assuming office in February 2022, Prof. Ologunorisa has consistently prioritized staff well-being, and the new minimum wage is a testament to his commitment to improving the standard of living for all employees amidst current economic challenges.

In addition to the wage adjustment, the Vice-Chancellor has cleared the outstanding arrears, a gesture that has been widely appreciated by staff across various unions.

Mr. Oluwaseyi Akeremale, a staff member, expressed his satisfaction: “I’m really impressed that the annual increment and promotion arrears have been paid, and that the new minimum wage is being implemented. It will go a long way in easing my burden.”

Dr. Rotimi Olorunisola, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), OAUSTECH branch, commended the Vice-Chancellor’s efforts, stating, “This is a welcome development, and we commend the Vice-Chancellor for his efforts. However, we still have some outstanding issues that need to be addressed, and we are sure that the Vice-Chancellor will continue to work with us to resolve them.”

Similarly, Mr. Dayo Temola, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), OAUSTECH chapter, also acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative, saying, “We appreciate the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to staff welfare. The payment of outstanding arrears and the implementation of the new minimum wage is a significant step towards addressing our concerns.”

Mr. Kunle Akinwonmi, Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), OAUSTECH branch, expressed his gratitude as well, stating, “We are grateful to the Vice-Chancellor for implementing the new minimum wage and paying outstanding arrears. This will go a long way in improving the welfare of our members.”

The Vice-Chancellor’s actions come after last year’s staff protests demanding the new wage, payment of arrears, and an increase in the monthly university subvention. The successful resolution of these issues marks a significant turning point in improving staff morale.

With these critical steps in staff welfare, OAUSTECH is poised for even greater achievements in both academic and research excellence.
