
VISITATION PANEL CONSTITUTED FOR UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, ONDO; NEW VICE CHANCELLOR APPOINTED
The Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has announced the formation of a Visitation Panel for the university.
The panel, which will be chaired by Prof. Gbenga Olumekun, includes Elder Idowu Benjamin, Mr. Olumide Ogidan, Mr. Anthony Akala, and Mr. Richard Adeyinka Arifalo (Secretary).
The panel’s key terms of reference include:
1. Evaluating the university’s compliance with its statutes and approved academic programs;
2. Reviewing the university’s financial management, including its subventions, grants, loans, and internally generated revenue (IGR), ensuring they adhere to appropriate regulations;
3. Assessing the adequacy of staff and staff development programs;
4. Investigating industrial relations between management, staff, and students and recommending strategies for fostering lasting peace and harmony;
5. Reviewing the status of the university’s landed properties and other assets;
6. Analyzing compliance with previous Visitation Panel recommendations and the government’s white paper;
7. Suggesting measures to reposition the university for optimal performance.
The Visitation Panel is expected to submit its report within six weeks.
In a related development, following the completion of Prof. Adesegun Fatusi’s tenure as Vice Chancellor, Governor Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of Prof. Ebuoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe as the new Vice Chancellor of UNIMED.
Prof. Adejuyigbe, who is a distinguished Professor of Paediatrics and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine, was appointed based on the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council. She is currently the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and a Consultant Paediatrician at the OAU Teaching Hospital. Prof. Adejuyigbe is also the Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Co-Chair of the National Child Health Technical Working Committee.
Prof. Adejuyigbe will formally assume the position of Vice Chancellor after the Visitation Panel submits its report. In the interim, Prof. Adolphus Odogun Loto, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Clinical Services, will serve as Acting Vice Chancellor.
