The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ondo State Command has extended its community peace advocacy campaign to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ondo State Chapter, underscoring the importance of peaceful coexistence and proactive security measures.

At the NURTW State Secretariat, the NSCDC’s State Commandant, CC Oluyemi Ibiloye, represented by DCC Odunayo Yusuff, Head of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, emphasized the union’s critical role in maintaining peace and security within the state. Ibiloye highlighted that the NURTW, being in constant contact with the public, is an essential partner in fostering a secure environment.

The engagement focused on building collaboration between NSCDC and NURTW to ensure early detection and response to conflicts, promoting peaceful resolutions through the Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) system. Ibiloye stressed that NURTW members should establish a conflict resolution mechanism to handle disputes within their ranks, with the NSCDC offering training in conflict management and alternative dispute resolution techniques.

DCC Yusuff also called on NURTW members to report any threats to critical national infrastructure or acts of vandalism, reinforcing NSCDC’s role as the lead agency in protecting such assets.

In response, NURTW Chairman Comrade Ademola Odudu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in the peace advocacy, assuring that the union would establish a conflict resolution committee at all levels. Odudu committed to further strengthening the collaboration with NSCDC, ensuring the promotion of peace throughout Ondo State.

The meeting was attended by NURTW executives, including the State Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary, Hon.Bunmi Olawoye, SSA to the Governor on Union Matters and representatives from the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
