Ondo Police Debunk Reported Kidnapping in Ofosu, Clarify Incident Occurred in Edo State

Akure, April 17, 2025

The Ondo State Police Command has issued a formal clarification regarding a recent kidnapping report, distancing the state from the incident initially misattributed to Ofosu along the Lagos-Ore Road.

In a statement released today by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the command addressed claims made by online news outlet Intel Region News, which alleged that a kidnapping occurred in Ofosu, Ondo State.

“Following a thorough investigation and verification with local authorities, it has been established that the incident did not occur in Ofosu or on the Lagos-Ore Road in Ondo State, as previously reported,” the statement read. “The unfortunate event actually took place in Ugbogui, a community near Ohosu along the Benin-Okada Road in Edo State.”

The police command emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, urging media outlets to verify facts before publication to avoid causing public panic.

Reassuring the public, the command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents. “We remain dedicated to collaborating with local authorities and other security agencies to ensure continued peace and security across Ondo State,” the release noted.

Residents were also encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security post.
