The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, has revealed significant progress in combating crime across the state during the first quarter of 2025. In a media briefing, the Corps disclosed that it responded to over 500 distress calls and profiled 750 suspects in connection with a wide range of criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, cultism, and human trafficking.

According to the Commander, Amotekun was able to charge 175 suspects to court, with others still under investigation. The Corps highlighted several major operations, including the prevention of a potential crisis between herders and farmers in the Owena Dam region, where crops worth an estimated N265,000 were destroyed. Timely intervention helped mediate the situation and restore peace.

Another significant operation occurred on February 14, when operatives intercepted two trucks carrying 114 unidentified individuals intending to settle in the state’s forest reserves. These individuals were found to have no valid reason for their presence and were escorted back to their states of origin at the expense of the state government.

Governor Locky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa administration was praised for enforcing policies to clear unauthorized settlers from forested areas and bolstering security in vulnerable zones. This includes deploying joint task forces like Operation Daga to safeguard the Akure North and Kogi-Edo boundary, areas recently targeted by bandits in unprovoked attacks.

The Corps also successfully cracked down on a fraud syndicate that lured 28 Ghanians to Akure under the pretense of securing U.S. visas, extorting $5,000 from them. The money was recovered and returned to the victims, who were advised to return to Ghana.

Amotekun addressed a troubling spike in cult-related violence in the northern senatorial district, where 150 suspected cultists were apprehended. Over 80 of them renounced their affiliations in court, with others facing prosecution.

The Corps extended gratitude to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for introducing the enhanced Amotekun Southwest Salary Scale, describing it as a morale booster. They reaffirmed their commitment to securing lives and property in collaboration with other security agencies.

The address concluded with the public parade of 31 additional suspects involved in ongoing cases.
