WAEC Fee Fixed at ₦7,000, Says ANCOPSS Chairman; PTA Explains Consolidated Charges

The Chairman of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) has reaffirmed that the official West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fee payable to the government stands at ₦7,000.
According to him, any additional payments made into separate accounts are for legitimate and duly approved services, including TOTEM, cloud services, identity cards, and other statutory school charges. He emphasized that these payments are not part of the government-approved WAEC fee but cover essential administrative and educational services.
Speaking on the matter, the school principal explained that Idanre is a predominantly agrarian community where most parents rely on seasonal farming and cocoa harvests for income. As a result, many parents prefer a one-time payment arrangement during peak harvest periods when funds are readily available. Missing this window, he noted, often leads to prolonged indebtedness and financial strain.
Consequently, the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) consistently advises parents during meetings to settle all approved fees early to avoid future financial and administrative challenges.
The principal commended the Honourable Commissioner for Education for his proactive leadership and expressed confidence in the integrity of school administrators across the state. He stated, “I believe no principal will misbehave under this present administration.”
He clarified that the school collects only authorized charges and that what may have been misconstrued was the consolidation of approved fees during the WAEC registration period to ensure convenience and accountability. According to him, experience has shown that payments left outstanding after WAEC registration are often difficult to recover.
The bulk payment system, he added, was willingly embraced by parents, particularly as it aligns with the peak farming season. Reaffirming his commitment to transparency, the principal stressed that no unauthorized levy was imposed on students or parents.
“Our intention has always been to ease the burden on parents while ensuring full compliance with government directives,” he concluded.
