
Ondo Celebrates Children with Colour and Commitment on International Children’s Day

The Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Olwaseun Osamaye, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa,on women’s affairs and social development brought joy and inspiration to thousands of children across the state on Tuesday as they marked this year’s International Children’s Day with a grand celebration in Akure, the state capital.
In a colourful event that united children from all 18 local government areas, the ministry—partnering with ESG and Save the Children International—hosted a two-day co-orientation program for young parliamentarians. The initiative aimed to educate the children on the fundamentals of legislative responsibilities, advocacy for child rights, electoral procedures, and the importance of democratic participation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Osamaye praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s unwavering commitment to child development, noting his prompt support and funding for the program. “Your Excellency, your visionary leadership and prompt approval made this event a resounding success,” she stated. “Your dedication to the welfare of children, even the most vulnerable, is commendable.”
The event saw a massive turnout of dignitaries, including traditional leaders, public officials, women stakeholders, security service chiefs, media representatives, and members of the children’s parliament, all gathered to honour and inspire the next generation.
Dr. Osamaye expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for making the celebration “exciting, memorable, and remarkable,” reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to nurturing the potential of every child in Ondo State.
