What began as a crackdown on exam malpractice at a secondary school in Akure took a violent turn when the Vice Principal was attacked and beaten into a coma by suspected thugs—allegedly hired by the parents of a student caught with a mobile phone during the ongoing WAEC exams.

By Exponent News, Akure — June 2, 2025

A Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, was beaten into a coma by suspected thugs allegedly hired by the parents of a student who was caught attempting to cheat during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The incident occurred after the Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, confiscated an android phone from an SS3 student on Monday, May 26, in line with school rules. The student’s mother later stormed the school on Thursday, threatening staff and demanding the return of the phone. Under pressure, the school’s proprietor ordered it to be handed back.

The situation escalated when the student’s brother, a former student of the school, reportedly returned later to harass and threaten Mr. Rotifa. Following the threats, the school directed the Vice Principal to report the matter to the police.

While returning from a search operation with two officers in a police van, Mr. Rotifa was ambushed by the thugs, dragged out of the vehicle, and brutally beaten. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated and later discharged, though he has since avoided returning home due to safety concerns.

The Ondo State Government confirmed the attack and has launched a preliminary investigation. Security measures are now being put in place to protect students and staff for the remainder of the WAEC examinations.

According to the source, the incident was true and that the whole Directors in the ministry would be going to the school this morning after their morning devotional prayers in the office to see things for themselves .Authorities say efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects and ensure justice is served.
