A coordinated security operation led by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has resulted in the arrest of five illegal miners in Ilu Agbo, a community in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The raid, which took place at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, was carried out by a joint taskforce comprising the NSCDC, Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, Amotekun Corps, and officials from the Federal Mines Office and Ondo State Government.

The suspects currently in NSCDC custody are undergoing profiling and have been identified as David Ayara, David Monday, Bonima Boluwatife, Stanley Odoh, and Wisdom Nomiye.

Speaking on the development, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye of the NSCDC Ondo State Command emphasized that the suspects will be prosecuted under relevant laws. He added that the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and serve as a deterrent to others engaged in similar activities.
