Tribunal Verdict: PDP Condemns APC’s Obsession with Distractions Over Substance

By Exponent News Akure 12th June 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, has sharply criticized what it describes as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s persistent tendency to abandon weighty issues of public importance in favour of trivial and diversionary matters.

In a statement made available to the Exponent News by Leye Igbabo-
Director of Media and Publicity,
PDP, Ondo State Chapter,  the  PDP  asserts that this posture reflects a party in deep crisis—one that has been abandoned by the very government it helped to install, leading to growing disillusionment within its ranks.

The PDP emphasized that it retains the inalienable right to express its views on any issue it deems significant. Consequently, it described as reprehensible and unconscionable the APC’s attempt to falsely portray the PDP as antagonistic to the Judiciary, following the party’s public reaction to the recent judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal.

“For the record,” the statement reads, “our party maintains that the mobilization of drummers and singers to the Tribunal premises on a day judgment was expected suggests, quite clearly, that the APC had prior knowledge of the verdict. This is a matter of simple logic.”

The PDP likened the act to a below-average student confidently celebrating exam results, even as top performers remain anxious—arguing that such conduct only makes sense if the student is certain that malpractice has already secured the outcome.

Reaffirming its dissatisfaction with the judgment, the PDP said the Tribunal failed to address the core electoral flaws highlighted in its petition. According to the party, the November 16, 2024, governorship election did not substantially comply with statutory provisions, particularly Section 73(2) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires presiding officers at each polling unit to record the quantity and serial numbers of result sheets, ballot papers, and other sensitive materials in Form EC25B provided by INEC.

The party claimed it proved beyond reasonable doubt that over 3,834 out of 3,933 polling units in the state failed to meet this requirement—a fact it says was acknowledged by the Tribunal but ultimately ignored in the final ruling.

While reaffirming respect for the judiciary and its autonomy, the PDP insisted it has every right to pursue further legal redress in response to what it considers a grave miscarriage of justice. It vowed to continue this pursuit with unwavering resolve and commitment.

In closing, the PDP dismissed APC’s reaction as an attempt to derail and distract from real issues, describing the ruling party as “a house in disarray, now disillusioned and increasingly alienated from the government it once championed.”
