OSOPADEC Gets N33.8 Billion Boost as Gov Aiyedatiwa Inaugurates New Board

By Exponent News Akure 16th June 2025

In a significant step toward accelerating development in Ondo State’s oil-producing areas, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Monday approved a historic N33.8 billion budget for the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) for the 2025 fiscal year — the highest allocation ever for the Commission.

The Governor made the announcement during the inauguration of the newly constituted OSOPADEC Board at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor’s Office, Akure. The event marked a pivotal moment in the Commission’s history, aligning with the administration’s “OUR EASE” development agenda focused on Access, Service, and Empowerment.

Governor Aiyedatiwa charged the new Board to drive tangible development across Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas — the two oil-producing regions under OSOPADEC’s mandate. He described the Board’s inauguration as more than a statutory act, calling it “a reaffirmation of this government’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and people-centered development.”

“With the amended OSOPADEC Act signed into law last year, the Commission is now better positioned for efficiency, accountability, and optimal service delivery,” the Governor said.

The N33.8 billion budget, according to him, will be channeled into critical infrastructure including roads, schools, healthcare centres, housing, and water supply. It will also bolster empowerment initiatives, scholarship programmes, and vocational training across the mandate areas.

“This is a bold statement that OSOPADEC will not only function under this administration but will flourish,” Aiyedatiwa said. “It must deliver transformation that speaks loudly and visibly in the lives of the people.”

He urged the new Board members to see their appointments as a call to service, with expectations for transparency, diligence, and measurable results. The Governor also called on community stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and development partners to collaborate with the Board to uplift the oil-bearing communities.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, the new OSOPADEC Chairman, Prince Biyi Olaleye Poroye, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for the trust placed in them and assured that the Board is fully committed to its mandate.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami; Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Ayedun; Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; and other top government functionaries, traditional rulers, and community leaders
