Amotekun Nabs Suspected Killer of Ondo APC Ward Chairman, Recovers Body from Shallow Grave

By Exponent News, Akure | June 23, 2025

A major breakthrough has been recorded in the investigation into the murder of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 5 Chairman in Ifon, as operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, arrested a suspect linked to the killing.

Commander of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, made this known while parading 32 suspected criminals at the agency’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, on Monday.

According to Adeleye, the arrested suspect confessed during interrogation and subsequently led Amotekun operatives to a shallow grave where the body of the slain party official was exhumed. The remains have since been handed over to the family and buried.

Mr. Adepoyigi was abducted at the gate of his residence in Ifon on Monday, May 13, 2025. Despite a reported ransom payment of N5 million, his lifeless body was discovered five days later, confirming his tragic end at the hands of his abductors.

While addressing reporters, Adeleye reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to maintaining peace and security across Ondo State. He assured residents and prospective investors of a safe environment, stating that there has been a marked drop in kidnapping incidents recently.

“Our operatives are permanently stationed in the forest reserves and border communities, especially in Akure North, which had been troubled by killer herdsmen. We want to assure our people that Amotekun is alert and responsive,” he said.

He also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities through the Corps’ emergency line: 0807999989, or to any nearby security agency.

The arrest marks a significant step forward in justice for the late APC chieftain and underlines the security agency’s growing role in grassroots-level policing.
