Sex Worker Dies After Dispute Over N15,000 in Akure Brothel, Three Arrested

By Exponent News, Akure – June 30, 2025

In a tragic incident that underscores rising concerns over safety within hospitality establishments, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects following the death of a commercial sex worker during a violent dispute with a customer over a N15,000 service charge.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025, at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure, within the jurisdiction of ‘A’ Division Police Station.

According to a police press release with reference number AZ:5280/ONS/PPRO/VOL.1/260, the altercation began when the sex worker reportedly collapsed during an encounter with a male client and was unable to continue the agreed services. The client allegedly became agitated and demanded a refund of the N15,000 he had paid.

The situation escalated when the disgruntled customer returned to the brothel with a group of suspected accomplices, intent on forcefully retrieving the money. This prompted the brothel manager to contact the police for assistance.

A swift response from a nearby patrol team led to the arrest of three individuals at the scene. Meanwhile, the victim, whose condition had worsened, was rushed first to a nearby clinic in the Lafe area and later referred to the Police Hospital in Akure. Unfortunately, she was declared dead on arrival.

Her remains have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.

The Police Command disclosed that two additional suspects linked to the incident remain at large, with efforts ongoing to apprehend them. Names of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe.

The police have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing any relevant information that may aid in bringing all perpetrators to justice.
