NOA Mourns Former President Buhari, Commits to National Flag Observance

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) joins millions of Nigerians in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR — a statesman whose leadership left an enduring impact on Nigeria’s political, moral, and institutional landscape.

In line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the national flag to be flown at half-mast for seven (7) days, the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has directed the Agency to monitor and ensure full compliance across public institutions nationwide. The NOA also calls on private organisations and citizens to observe this symbolic act of national mourning in honour of the late President’s legacy.

“This is a moment of deep national reflection,” Mallam Issa-Onilu said. “President Buhari served Nigeria with unwavering dedication, both as a military and civilian leader. His life was defined by courage, integrity, and a commitment to building strong institutions and fighting corruption.”

The Agency urges all Nigerians to honour the memory of the former President not only by flying the flag at half-mast but by embracing the values he stood for — patriotism, discipline, and selfless service to the nation.

This act of collective remembrance goes beyond ceremony; it is a solemn expression of national unity, gratitude, and respect.

As we lower our flags, may we raise our hopes for a more united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.

Deputy Director, Media & Communications
