In a bid to improve grassroots engagement and modernize its service delivery framework, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Ondo State Directorate, has organized a one-day capacity-building workshop for its Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers (COMOs) across the state’s 18 Local Government Areas.

The training, which held in Akure, was designed to equip COMOs with practical skills in report writing, programme planning, and community engagement, with a view to enhancing the agency’s effectiveness at the grassroots.

Declaring the workshop open, the State Director of NOA, Mr. James Adekunle, emphasized the critical need for upgraded strategies in service delivery. He noted that the workshop aimed to “restore efficiency and modern standards” in the execution and reporting of NOA’s civic programmes.

The first session, led by Comrade Godwin Oranezu, Head of Civic, Values, and Democracy, alongside Mrs. Bimpe Osakuade, Head of Planning, Research, and Strategy, focused on adopting a new standardized template for activity reports and the Pulse of the Nation updates. Participants were guided through practical sessions supported by smart-screen displays for better clarity and learning.

In the second phase, Mr. Sesan Olubummo, Head of Community Safety and Awareness, trained participants on effective proposal writing, programme implementation, and feedback systems. A hands-on assignment was given to illustrate a sensitization campaign against environmental degradation in Ifedore Local Government Area.

Additional highlights included sessions on improving the quality of photographic documentation, using GPS-enabled cameras, and properly recording participants’ attendance to improve transparency and accountability.

The State Directorate says the initiative is part of its renewed drive to align community mobilization efforts with global best practices, while also ensuring that the voices and needs of rural communities are effectively represented and addressed.
