STOLEN TOYOTA SIENNA RECOVERED IN AKURE AS POLICE BUST VEHICLE-THEFT SYNDICATE

A member of a criminal syndicate notorious for stealing Toyota vehicles has been apprehended by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command, leading to the recovery of a stolen gray Toyota Sienna in Akure. This latest breakthrough highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing efforts spearheaded by the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc+, mnips.

On 5th September 2025, acting on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit arrested one Oteku Silas (m) at Ajibamidele, along the Ore–Lagos Road. At the time of arrest, a gray Toyota Sienna stolen in Akure was found in his possession.

Further investigations revealed the suspect’s involvement in the fraudulent sale of another stolen Toyota vehicle previously recovered in the state. The vehicle had been tampered with, likely in preparation for illegal sale to unsuspecting buyers.

During interrogation, Oteku Silas confessed to being a member of a well-organized syndicate specializing in vehicle theft, particularly targeting Toyota models. He also confirmed affiliation with an armed robbery gang previously busted by the Command, in which five members were arrested and charged to court, with four stolen vehicles already recovered.

The police disclosed that the prime suspect responsible for disposing of the stolen vehicles remains on the run, but assured that efforts are being intensified to bring him and other fleeing members of the gang to justice. This operation underscores the Command’s sustained commitment to dismantling criminal syndicates and enhancing public safety.

The arrested suspect is currently in lawful custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his consistent support and leadership, which continue to drive policing success in Ondo State.

He also praised the SWAT operatives for their professionalism and diligence, charging them to maintain momentum in the fight against organized crime and ensure the complete disbandment of the syndicate.
