Two Arrested After Fatal Attack in Ondo-Delta Boundary Clash

Exponent News, AKURE, ONDO STATE, 19th September, 2025

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a deadly communal attack stemming from a boundary dispute between the Adeloseimo-Ijaw community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State and the Kokotoru community in Warri, Delta State.

The incident, which occurred on the 18th and 19th of August, 2025, involved armed men from Kokotoru community launching coordinated assaults on Adeloseimo 2, Arogbo-Ijaw, with dangerous weapons including firearms and machetes.

The attack resulted in the death of one Isaac Perema, while five others sustained varying degrees of gunshot and machete injuries. In a gruesome attempt to cover up the killing, the perpetrators allegedly tied logs of wood to Perema’s body and dumped it in a river. However, the body later resurfaced, revealing the extent of the violence and exposing the failed attempt to conceal the crime.

The police have arrested and charged two suspects in connection with the incident. They are:

Williams Myenepiri (24 years old)

Ikueje Kampala (59 years old)

Weapons recovered
A pump action rifle was recovered during the operation. Both suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the attacks and are currently facing legal proceedings. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects who are still at large.

The arrests were made under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, whose leadership continues to drive proactive policing efforts across the state.

CP Lawal expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his strategic support, which he said has bolstered the capacity of the Command to respond swiftly to violent crimes.

While condemning the attacks in strong terms, the Commissioner issued a stern warning to both communities, stating that no further acts of violence will be tolerated. He vowed that all perpetrators—regardless of status—will be brought to justice.

He further urged traditional leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders in both communities to seek peaceful resolution through dialogue rather than violence. The Command, he said, remains committed to working with all critical actors to restore lasting peace in the affected areas.
