In a landmark development for staff welfare, the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) Staff Cooperative Society has officially commissioned its new office complex amid accolades from government officials and stakeholders.

The commissioning ceremony,, according to the information released by the Press officer, Mr Ayo Falana  said that the programme was  held at the newly renovated facility, drew commendations for the cooperative executives’ prudent management and dedication to improving the lives of members. Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, emphasized the fundamental role of cooperatives in sharing the burdens and successes of their members.

Dr. Akanbiemu stressed that the welfare of cooperative members must remain a top priority, urging executives to be responsive to the challenges faced by their members. He also called on the Director of the Ministry of Commerce and Cooperative Services to closely monitor the activities of unregistered “street cooperatives,” which he described as fraudulent and exploitative.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Cooperative Services in the Ministry, Mr. Felix Braiye, applauded the leadership of the Itesiwaju Cooperative Society for maintaining peace and progress since its establishment in 2016. He noted that the society had remained free of crises, a feat not common among many cooperative societies today.

Mr. Braiye promised ongoing technical support from the Ministry to ensure the society continues to grow and fulfill its objectives. He praised the executives for their dedication and transparency in running the affairs of the society.

In his welcome address, the President of the society, Pastor Israel Adeyemi, recalled that the cooperative was founded nine years ago with the aim of easing financial burdens and improving staff welfare. He noted that the society had fulfilled its founding promises, including providing financial support during periods of salary delays and economic hardship, particularly during lockdowns.

Pastor Adeyemi thanked Dr. Akanbiemu for his support, especially in approving the renovation and use of the building that now houses the cooperative. He disclosed that the complex includes a warehouse for regular commodity distribution, office spaces for staff, a boardroom for executive meetings, and a standard crèche for staff children.

He also highlighted major achievements of the society, including the acquisition of hectares of land along the Ondo-Akure road for members and the development of mobile applications that allow members to access commodities online.

The event’s highlight was the official tape-cutting ceremony performed by Dr. Akanbiemu, who was later taken on a guided tour of the facility by Pastor Adeyemi and other executives.
