Amotekun Nabs Four Suspects in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has paraded four suspects allegedly involved in various criminal activities, including kidnapping, robbery, and vandalism across the state.

Speaking while parading the suspects at the Corps headquarters in Akure, the State Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed that six other suspects arrested within the last two weeks would not be presented yet as investigations were still ongoing.

According to Adeleye, the four suspects on parade include Ogungbemi Adebayo, 29, who confessed to working as an informant for a kidnapping syndicate operating around Ademekun power line at Agodada camp.

“He said he was recruited a few months ago and later trained by some Fulani men in the use of AK-47 rifles. He has been working with them until he was apprehended through a joint operation involving Amotekun, the Civil Defence Corps, and residents of Ademekun village,” Adeleye stated.

Another suspect, Nasiru Suleiman, was arrested for allegedly dismantling government-owned caterpillars and selling off their parts along the Akure–Ondo road. Adeleye said Suleiman and his gang had vandalized several heavy-duty machines before their arrest.

Also paraded was Saliu Nureni, 57, accused of robbery and arson near the NEPA market in Akure, while Ahmed Oladimeji was apprehended for allegedly stealing a generator and alternator in the Igoba area of the state capital.

Adeleye noted that the recent operations had led to a drastic reduction in criminal activities across Ondo State, assuring residents that the state remains safe for business and social activities.

“Ondo State remains very safe for your business to thrive and for the socio-economic growth of the state,” he said.

On the suspension of four Amotekun officers, the commander clarified that the action was taken in line with the Corps’ disciplinary regulations.

“Every organization has its own rules. The law establishing the Amotekun Corps provides for the issuance of identity cards and warrant cards only to full staff. Intelligence reports revealed that the suspended officers are; Abu Taiwo, Akinsipe Victor and Ekujumi Julius.were being sponsored to undermine the Corps and distract it from its core mandate,” Adeleye explained.

He added that the affected officers had been declared wanted and urged them to appear before the Corps to defend themselves, stressing that Amotekun would not be dragged into social media controversies.

“They are acting in isolation, and we have proof that they are being sponsored. The Corps remains solid and focused on protecting lives and property in Ondo State,” Adeleye affirmed.
