Ondo Police Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Locally Made Guns in Akure
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers in separate operations in Akure, the state capital, recovering two cut-to-size locally made firearms.
The arrests were made on October 13 and 19, 2026, by operatives of the ‘B’ Division Surveillance Patrol Team and the Okuta Elerinla Division, respectively, as part of efforts to curb armed robbery and other criminal activities across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
According to the statement, operatives of the ‘B’ Division Surveillance Patrol Team intercepted a 32-year-old man, identified as Oliver Bamidele, during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Idanre Road axis of Akure on October 13.
A search conducted on him reportedly led to the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made gun concealed in his possession.
The police said the suspect was taken into custody for preliminary questioning, during which he reportedly admitted ownership of the firearm.
The statement added that investigations were ongoing to establish the source of the weapon and determine its intended use, while the suspect and the recovered exhibit would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.
In a separate operation on October 19, operatives of the Okuta Elerinla Division arrested a 35-year-old man, identified as Levis Prince, after intercepting two individuals riding on a blue TVS motorcycle around the Madam Do Good area of Oyemekun Road, Akure.
The police said the patrol team became suspicious of the individuals’ circumstances and stopped them for a search, which led to the recovery of another cut-to-size locally made pistol.
One of the individuals reportedly fled during the operation, while Prince was apprehended.
The command said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing individual, adding that investigations would determine the origin of the recovered firearm, its intended use and whether it was connected to any criminal activity.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and commitment to crime prevention.
Ohagwu reiterated the command’s determination to tackle armed robbery and other criminal activities capable of threatening public peace and security.
He also assured residents that the police would sustain intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols and stop-and-search exercises to identify and disrupt criminal activities across the state.
The commissioner urged residents to remain supportive of security agencies as the command continues efforts to protect lives and property throughout Ondo State.
