Amotekun Parades 38 Suspects, Reaffirms Ondo as Unsafe Haven for Criminals

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has paraded 38 suspects arrested across the state for various crimes, including kidnapping, rape, murder, vandalism, and illegal immigration.
Commandant of the Corps, Àkogun Adeleye Adetunji, while addressing journalists at the agency’s headquarters in Akure on Tuesday, said the arrests marked another milestone in the outfit’s efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and sustain peace and order.
According to him, 34 of the suspects were apprehended for breaches of law and order, while two others were arrested over kidnapping cases and another two for rape-related offences. He emphasized that all zonal commanders and divisional officers had been mandated to ensure the continuous safety of lives and property across the state.
“In the last few weeks, our operatives have worked tirelessly to ensure Ondo remains one of the safest states in the country, thanks to the synergy among security agencies,” he stated.
He disclosed that Amotekun recently busted a syndicate responsible for vandalizing government machinery, including caterpillar engines, tires, and other heavy-duty equipment. The suspects allegedly opened fire on operatives before being overpowered and arrested.
The Commandant also revealed the arrest of a suspected spy who had been aiding kidnappers in the Agodada area by alerting them of Amotekun movements. Another suspect was caught wearing military camouflage and he will be handed over to military authorities for investigation.
Items recovered include trucks, tricycles, gas-cutting tools, and vandalized government equipment. The agency also arrested buyers of the stolen items, while two suspects remain at large.
In addition, 22 illegal immigrants from Benin Republic and Togo were apprehended after failing to provide valid reasons for their presence in Nigeria. They will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and possible repatriation.
Reading out names of some suspects, the Commandant identified one Aderemi (35) arrested for murder and kidnapping, a 45-year-old man, Etuk, alleged to be a kidnapper’s spy, and Victor, who was arrested in Ofosu for murder. Others, including Muazu, Sani, Monshood, James, and Seidu, were apprehended for vandalizing government property.
He reaffirmed that Ondo State remains safe for law-abiding residents but unsafe for criminals. “Head or tail, Amotekun will catch you. The best advice is to stay away from crime,” he warned.
Meanwhile, during interrogation, one of the suspects, identified as Etuk, claimed ignorance of the offence for which he was arrested.
Etuk, who described himself as a patent medicine dealer, said he had no shop because he lacked the funds to open one. According to him, he had gone to a farm with someone when the incident leading to his arrest occurred.
He narrated that while on the farm, the person who accompanied him moved ahead, leaving him behind. “As I shouted for him, some men came and asked me who I was looking for. The person who brought me there said they went to the front. Before I knew it, they carried me and said I should follow them,” he explained.
Etuk said he was later taken to several places, including a house, a palace, and then another location where he was informed that he had been arrested in connection with a kidnapping case.
He, however, insisted on his innocence, maintaining that he knew nothing about the alleged crime. “They said I was involved in a kidnapping, but I told them I don’t know anything about that,” he added.
The Commandant concluded by assuring residents that the Corps would continue to uphold its mandate of protecting lives and property while maintaining zero tolerance for crime in the state.
