Political Leaders, Traditional Rulers Gather in Auga-Akoko for Obanla’s 60th Birthday

10th January,2026

Political heavyweights from across party lines on Friday converged on Auga-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, as Hon. Prince Bode Obanla marked his 60th birthday in a ceremony that blended politics, tradition and personal tributes.
The event attracted prominent leaders, party stalwarts and traditional rulers, underscoring Obanla’s wide political acceptance and enduring influence built over decades of public service and relationship-building.
Chairman of the occasion and Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, described the celebration as a testament to character, loyalty and lasting friendships rather than mere age.
Poroye, who revealed that he has maintained a close relationship with the celebrant for more than 20 years, stressed that human relationships should rise above political differences.
According to him, “Anyone who does not value relationships does not understand life. No matter the position you attain, relationships matter. Politics should never destroy friendships because interests may change, but relationships should endure.”
He noted that the diversity of political actors present at the event reflected Obanla’s consistency, trustworthiness and respect across divides.
In his remarks, Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engineer Ade Adetimehin, described Obanla as a man of principle and integrity, adding that his commitment and loyalty have contributed significantly to the growth of the party since his defection.
Also speaking, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Victor Olabimtan, offered prayers for long life, good health and continued relevance for the celebrant.
A goodwill message from the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, delivered by the Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CC Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, JP, described Obanla as a dependable ally and confidant, praying that his latter years would surpass his earlier accomplishments.
The well-attended celebration further highlighted Hon. Prince Bode Obanla’s standing as a unifying figure in Ondo State politics as he marks six decades of life and service.
