Ondo : Ilu-Abo Under Siege as Gunmen Attack Community; CP Condemns Act

Residents of Ilu-Abo community in Ondo State were thrown into fear on Sunday night following a violent attack by suspected gunmen that left several persons injured and one woman abducted.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m. at Liberty Avenue in the Ilu-Abo area of the state.
According to preliminary reports, about six armed men ambushed and opened fire on a resident, John Ofuduwa, while he was driving into his residence in a Toyota Camry with Abuja registration number GWA 674 CM. Ofuduwa sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
In the same incident, a neighbour, Oladeinde Tomilola, was abducted by the assailants as she was about to enter her compound.
Two other victims—Victoria and her 11-year-old daughter, Victoria Olorunfemi—who were passing through the area at the time, sustained varying degrees of injuries from the gunfire. All injured persons were promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, on Monday visited the scene of the attack to assess the situation and engage with residents. He strongly condemned the incident and reassured the community that security has been reinforced with additional tactical and intelligence-driven measures to ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators and to prevent a recurrence.
CP Lawal also paid a visit to the palace of the Oluabo of Ilu-Abo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Samuel Oluyemi Falae, CFR, GCON, where the traditional ruler condemned the attack and pledged the palace’s full cooperation with security agencies. The monarch assured the police of the mobilization of community vigilante groups to complement ongoing security efforts and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The Commander, 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi, accompanied the Commissioner of Police during the assessment and assured that the Nigerian Army would provide all necessary support to ensure the arrest of the attackers and the rescue of the abducted victim.
The Ondo State Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to rescue the abducted victim and bring all those responsible for the attack to justice.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and provide credible information that may aid the investigation.
