50 Students Make First Class as OAUSTECH Holds 9th Convocation
The Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Nigeria, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has disclosed that the University will be graduating 50 First Class (Honours) graduates during its 9th Convocation to be held on Wednesday, 4th March, 2026. According to the information released from the office of the Directorate of Information Protocol and Public Relations, OAUSTECH shows that Prof. Ologunorisa made the disclosure while addressing newsmen during a Pre-Convocation Press Briefing held at the main campus of the institution on Wednesday, 25th February, 2026.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the University will be graduating a total number of 1,452 students for 2024/2025 academic session out of which 50 were in the first class category, 594 in second class upper category, 691 in second class lower and 115 in third class categories respectively.
He also hinted that the University for the first time would be graduating its first PhD student, who is from the Department of Mathematics, hinting that the best graduating student in the Convocation, Mr. Agboola Wale Isiah from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has the CGPA of 4.90.
Prof. Ologunorisa highlighted some of his administration’s modest achievements to include annual regular convocation, increase in students’ population from less than 5,000 he met in 2022 when he assumed office to about 12,000 at present, stating that for the current session (2025/2026), the University admitted about 4,500 students, noting that was the highest so far in the history of the institution.
He enumerated other achievements as maintaining stable academic calendar, increase in students’ enrolment, increase in number of Schools/Faculties from three to seven, increase in number of programmes, collaboration with leading universities in the United States and across the globe, prioritizing of staff and students welfare among others.
“Through all these and more we were able to rebrand and reposition the University in all ramifications and have consistently gaining parents and public confidence over the years”, Ologunorisa remarked.
He stated that the quality of the University graduates is superb as a good number of them were given admission for PhD directly in some leading American universities, without having to pass through any master’s degree.
The Vice-Chancellor, posited that the academic staff in the University are making great waves in the area of scholarship and research, noting that some of its lecturers in recent years have consistently been rated among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University and Elseveir. He cited Dr. Adeleke Bartholomew Saanu of the School of Science and Dr. Akinyele Daniel Oluwaseun of the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology among others as part of the recipients of the prestigious global recognition.
He also noted that the University has transcended theory by making meaningful contributions in terms of practical knowledge, revealing that one of the scholars in the institution, Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, the current Acting Director of Academic Planning recently developed a very potent medicine that not only boosts the immune system, but cures impotency. The medicine known as “Fix It” is already patented by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Prof. Ologunorisa in his address commended the Government and the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his support to the University, especially, for ensuring light returned to Southern Senatorial District through which the institution now enjoys stable electricity and also for supporting the institution during accreditation exercises.
“I assure you that all our programmes in the University are fully accredited. The days of interim accreditation for some programmes are gone.”
He equally gave kudos to the Governor for the MoU he recently signed for the construction of Seaport in Ilaje Local Government Area of the State, stating this no doubt will sporadically transform the economy of the sunshine state.
“As institution, our University is strategically well-positioned to advance scholarship and research in the development of Blue Economy of Ondo State by virtue of our close access to the ocean. Hopefully, we’re starting our School of Maritime Transport and Logistics where we would run B.Sc in Port Management, B.Sc in Maritime Transport and Logistics, and B.Sc in Maritime Economics and Finance among others,” the Vice-Chancellor disclosed.
He hinted that the convocation lecture titled “Strategies for Developing Blue Economy: Lessons from the Caribbean” scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 3rd March at the main campus of the University would be delivered by the President of the Caribbean Maritime University, Jamaica, Prof. Andrew Spencer.
Concluding, OAUSTECH’s Vice-Chancellor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing NELfund, saying it is one of the best initiatives of the current administration in the Nigeria.
