Police Bust Motorcycle Robbery Syndicate, Arrest Four in Ondo

13th March,2026

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have dismantled a suspected armed motorcycle robbery syndicate operating in Akure and its surrounding communities, arresting four suspects and recovering four stolen motorcycles.
The breakthrough followed an intelligence-led operation by officers attached to the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Section. Acting on credible information about a gang involved in the armed hijacking of motorcycles, police operatives launched an investigation and tracking operation that led to the arrest of members of the syndicate.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were traced to the Ishinigbo area of Akure where some members of the gang were apprehended. The operation later extended beyond Ondo State, leading to additional arrests in Ilesa, Osun State.
Those arrested were identified as Aliu Damilola, 39; Kolawole Gbenga, 41; Adedokun Azeez Olalekan, 26; and Olamiposi Ajifowogbade, 36.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects belong to a well-organised robbery syndicate that specialises in hijacking motorcycles at gunpoint, particularly targeting unsuspecting riders within Akure metropolis.
Police said the suspects confessed to robbing one Adeleke Taye at gunpoint around the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) axis, where they forcefully dispossessed him of his TVS motorcycle.
Following their arrest, operatives recovered four motorcycles suspected to have been stolen from different victims. The motorcycles are currently in police custody pending identification and return to their rightful owners.
The suspects have reportedly made useful statements to investigators, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang still at large and recover more stolen property linked to the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes, stressing that the police will continue to deploy intelligence-driven strategies to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
Lawal also commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism and swift response, warning criminal elements to desist from illegal activities in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention and investigation.
