In a bid to celebrate the grace and wisdom of God in the life of a senior citizen and reputable icon of our generation, Pa Seinde Arogbofa (OFR, PCN), Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, has described Basorun Seinde Arogbofa as an asset to this generation for the wisdom and spirit of hard work bestowed on him by God.
According to her, discipline and hard work are among the traits she learned from the life of Seinde Arogbofa. As part of the celebration, Prof. Oladiji recognised the long life granted to the celebrant by God and appreciated his contributions to the development of literature in the country. She equally commended Basorun Seinde Arogbofa for writing the book titled Understanding Afenifere: A Journey through the Yorùbá Leadership Organization.
The Vice-Chancellor celebrated Basorun Seinde Arogbofa as he clocked his 87th birthday this year and also congratulated him on his investiture as a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors. She appreciated his dedication to humanity.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode (SAN), former Minister of Defence, welcomed all distinguished personalities to the launch and the celebration of the birthday of the octogenarian, Seinde Arogbofa (OFR). He appreciated the grace of God upon him and the good work he has been doing through his contributions to humanity and literary development.
Basorun Seinde Arogbofa has contributed immensely to the development of literature. He has to his credit twenty-one publications and is still counting. Among his works are Trapped, Wives and Mothers, The Path We Refused to Take, among others. At the event, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa (OFR, PCN) was decorated as a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Ondo State chapter, in recognition of his meritorious contributions to humanity.
In his response, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa thanked all those who contributed to the success of the programme. He said he was grateful to God for being able to document the journey of Afenifere for public preservation. He also thanked His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his support towards the programme. He appreciated all the religious bodies present and acknowledged associations that have supported him over the years, such as VICOSA, ANCOPSS, ANA, and the University of Ibadan Alumni, noting that they have always been a source of joy to him.
He also revealed that one of his areas of interest is reading, especially writing, which he noted often receives limited public attention, yet continues to enjoy patronage. He encouraged people to continue reading in order to grow and thrive, and urged writers to keep writing for the development of humanity.
Dignitaries at the event included top government functionaries, political juggernauts, and traditional rulers, among whom were the Deji of Akure, the Osemawe of Ondo, and other royal fathers who graced the occasion.
