Sad: Inferno burns two children to death in Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a tragic fire incident that claimed the lives of two young children in Ode-Aye, Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on March 18, 2026, at No. 1 Olaribigbe Street, Zion Area, reportedly led to the death of Queen Ohwo, 6, and Everlyne Ohwo, 4, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ohwo Peter.
Police operatives who visited the scene carried out necessary documentation and evacuated the severely burnt remains of the victims to a health facility in Ode-Aye. The parents of the deceased were said to be in deep shock following the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest the inferno may have resulted from negligence during cooking activities. However, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The Divisional Police Officer in Ode-Aye has been directed to secure the scene, obtain statements from witnesses, and work with the Federal Fire Service to ascertain the origin and extent of the fire.
The Command commiserated with the bereaved family and urged residents to exercise caution in handling fire and cooking appliances to prevent similar tragedies.
It also advised the public never to leave cooking unattended, keep flammable materials away from open flames, avoid leaving children alone around heat sources, and ensure basic fire safety tools are available at home.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
