Police Bust Kidnap Ring, Rescue Victim in Ondo Community

14th April, 2026
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped victim and arrested a suspected member of a kidnap gang in Isua Akoko, following a swift intelligence-led operation.
The breakthrough came after a report was lodged on April 10, 2026, at the Isua Police Division by a resident, Ahmadu, who raised concerns that one of two young men engaged in cattle rearing at Ipesi Akoko had failed to return home. Acting promptly, police operatives launched a coordinated search that led to the victim’s safe rescue.
According to the victim, he was abducted at night by three armed suspects. In an attempt to escape, he managed to inflict a head injury on one of his captors—an action that later proved crucial in the police investigation.
Relying on credible information provided by the victim, officers traced and arrested a suspect with a visible head injury at Obasanjo Motor Park in Isua at about 6:09 a.m. The suspect reportedly confessed to participating in the crime and was subsequently identified by the victim.
The rescued victim has been taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended members of the public for providing timely and actionable information, stressing that community collaboration remains key in tackling criminal activities. He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
The Police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with useful information.
