The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the ongoing Aboto–Atijere Road project, revealing that about 15 kilometres of the 28.5-kilometre stretch has already been covered as construction progresses steadily across the riverine axis.
Residents and stakeholders in the oil-producing communities of Ondo State have also expressed optimism over the reconstruction project, which is expected to improve transportation and boost economic activities in the area.
Chairman of OSOPADEC, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, gave the assurance during an inspection visit to the project site, where he commended the contractor for the pace and quality of work already executed.
Poroye disclosed that the progress recorded on the road reflected the commitment of the Ondo State Government towards infrastructural development in the mandate areas.
He noted that the determination of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the commitment of the contractor had continued to drive the project forward.
“As regards the Aboto–Atijere Road, one thing is certain: when you walk with a determined mind, you can never be disappointed. The Governor is determined to complete this project and the contractor is equally determined,” he said.
The OSOPADEC chairman added that the commission remained committed to supporting the contractor to ensure successful completion of the project.
The Aboto–Atijere Road is considered a major infrastructural link expected to improve transportation, boost economic activities and enhance connectivity within the riverine communities of the state.
Also speaking, the Director of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Dipo Aluko, said the project had attained about 50 per cent completion.
According to him, stone base work currently covers 10.7 kilometres, while earthworks, drainage and other structural components have extended to about 14 kilometres.
Aluko further disclosed that the contractor had been directed to commence asphalting on sections already completed with stone base, which currently spans about four kilometres.
He explained that the project had also received an upward review aimed at accelerating execution and ensuring timely delivery in line with government expectations and the needs of benefiting communities.
The development has continued to attract positive reactions from residents and stakeholders, many of whom described the project as a major step towards improving socio-economic activities in the area.
