Hundreds of well-wishers, political leaders celebrate Afenifere Leader in Ondo
Hundreds of well-wishers, political leaders and admirers gathered in Ondo State to celebrate elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, as he marked his 100th birthday amid glowing tributes to his decades of service, integrity and commitment to justice.
Former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, described the centenarian as a humble and resilient leader whose contributions to the development of Ondo State and Nigeria remain invaluable.
Mimiko said Fasoranti had mentored several prominent men and women who have continued to contribute meaningfully to society and the growth of the state.
Speaking at the celebration, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, hailed Fasoranti as “an institution” whose life represents honour, sacrifice, conviction and selfless service to humanity.
Aiyedatiwa said the elder statesman had remained steadfast through political transitions and national challenges, adding that his moral authority continued to command respect across Nigeria.
“We are celebrating a man who devoted his life to truth, justice and the defence of values that continue to hold society together,” the governor said.
He recalled how Fasoranti intervened during his political ordeal, noting that a single letter written by the Afenifere leader drew the attention of authorities and led to intervention.
According to the governor, Fasoranti represents a generation that believes leadership is a sacred duty and that character, honour and conscience remain essential in public service.
Aiyedatiwa further described the nonagenarian as a teacher, mentor, father and patriarch whose humility, simplicity and quiet influence continue to inspire many Nigerians.
The governor noted that Fasoranti’s courage was reflected in his refusal to compromise his principles, stressing that such rare qualities deserved celebration and honour.
The event attracted dignitaries from across the country who joined family members, associates and admirers to celebrate the elder statesman’s century-long impact on society.
