ILE-OLUJI, Ondo State, June 12, 2026 — The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Dr. Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku, has called on Nigerians to reject apathy, corruption, and divisive politics as the nation marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
In a Democracy Day message released on Friday, Ebeloku described June 12 as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the determination of Nigerians to uphold democratic values and ensure that the will of the people prevails.
According to him, democracy remains a continuous journey that requires active citizen participation, vigilance, patriotism, and commitment to national development.
The Rector noted that educational institutions have a critical role to play in sustaining democracy by producing not only skilled professionals but also responsible leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers.
Addressing students of the institution, Ebeloku urged them to focus on acquiring skills, maintaining integrity, and contributing innovative ideas that can drive societal progress.
“A strong democracy needs young people who are critical thinkers, who reject violence, misinformation, and intolerance, and who are committed to finding solutions to societal challenges,” he said.
He also commended members of staff for their dedication to academic excellence, mentorship, and character development, describing their contributions as essential to nation-building.
Ebeloku reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to democratic principles, including respect for due process, transparency, freedom of expression, and adherence to the rule of law.
He further stated that Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, would continue to collaborate with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and local communities to promote sustainable development through research, innovation, and manpower development.
The Rector urged Nigerians to embrace dialogue, accountability, unity, and selfless service while working collectively toward a stronger and more prosperous nation.
“As we mark this year’s Democracy Day, may we all recommit ourselves to the enduring ideals of justice, unity, peace, and progress. May the sacrifices of the past inspire our actions today and strengthen our hope for a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
He wished Nigerians a happy Democracy Day and prayed for continued progress for the institution, Ondo State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
