OSOPADEC Flags Off N1.4bn Sabomi Township Road Project, Highlights One Year of Infrastructure Achievements

Sabomi, Ondo State, June 17, 2026

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has commenced the construction of a 1-kilometre township road in Sabomi, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the current administration under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, Poroye said the road project, awarded on January 14, 2026, at a cost of N1.4 billion, is expected to be completed within 18 months. The project will be handled by PHEKENS Nigeria Limited under the supervision of JAY EVAS Consulting Engineers Limited and OSOPADEC’s technical team.
According to the chairman, the initiative reflects the commission’s commitment to translating public resources into tangible development projects that improve the lives of residents across oil-producing communities in Ondo State.
He noted that the Sabomi road would enhance access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other socio-economic opportunities, describing it as a critical intervention for a community that has long awaited improved infrastructure.
Poroye used the occasion to review the commission’s performance over the past year, highlighting several completed projects across the mandate areas. These include the General Hospital at Agada-Obon in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, the 1-kilometre Igbotu Township Road, the 1,000-metre concrete walkway with jetty at Obe-Nla in Ilaje Local Government Area, and concrete landing walkways at Obe-Rewoye, Obe-Ogbaro, Obe-Magbe and Obe-Lomore.
He also announced the commencement of a Naval Security Post with walkways and jetties at Atijere, describing it as the lead project for similar security facilities planned for Ebighan, Odun-Oyinbo and Apata communities.
The chairman explained that the security projects are designed to strengthen safety in coastal communities, protect lives and property, and support economic activities in the region.
Providing updates on other ongoing developments, Poroye said work is progressing on the Aboto–Atijere Road, the Omuro International Market in Ode-Ugbo, the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics in Ugbo-Nla, and a two-million-gallon-per-day concrete sedimentation tank in Aboto. He added that the commission has also supplied 4,000 desks and chairs to public primary and secondary schools across its mandate areas.
While expressing appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his support, the OSOPADEC chairman commended members of the board, management, staff, traditional rulers, community leaders, contractors and residents for their cooperation in delivering development projects.
He assured residents of Sabomi that the road project would be closely monitored to ensure quality execution, accountability and timely completion.
Poroye maintained that OSOPADEC would continue to prioritize infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and economic empowerment projects as it enters its second year in office.
Among projects completed and awaiting commissioning by Governor Aiyedatiwa are the General Hospital, Agada-Obon; the Igbotu Township Road; the Obe-Nla Concrete Walkway with Jetty; and concrete landing walkways at Obe-Rewoye, Obe-Ogbaro, Obe-Magbe and Obe-Lomore.
Projects recently flagged off by the commission include the Sabomi Township Road and Naval Security Posts with jetties in Atijere, Odun-Oyinbo, Ebighan and Apata communities.
