Police arrest six suspected cultists in Ondo, recover weapons

23rd June, 2026

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during an intelligence-led operation in parts of Akoko, in a renewed crackdown on cult-related activities in the state.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akungba and Iwaro Akoko communities, followed credible intelligence on suspected cult movements in the area. The suspects were reportedly picked up at identified locations during a coordinated early morning raid.
The arrested suspects include Damilare Kayode (30), Adejoro Godwin (30), Adedapo Ogunro (36), Chisom Okechukwu (21), Ademulegun Imisi (26), and Odugunle Bukola (21). Preliminary investigations indicate alleged involvement in unlawful confraternity activities linked to security concerns in the Akoko axis.
Items recovered during the operation include five battle axes, a jackknife, suspected charms, and confraternity materials such as boots, yellow singlets, and face caps. The police said the exhibits are being retained for further investigation and prosecution.
The Ondo State Police Command described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to dismantle cult networks and curb violent crime across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for professionalism and reiterated the Command’s commitment to the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu on tackling cultism and violent crime nationwide.
He assured residents of sustained intelligence-led policing, strategic raids, and increased visibility operations, while urging continued public cooperation through credible information sharing.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
