We Are Ready for State Police ,as Amotekun Parades 46 Suspects in Ondo

By Olusegun HOSEA | June 24, 2026

The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, code-named Amotekun, has expressed support for the proposed establishment of state police in Nigeria, saying it would significantly improve security across the country.
The Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, who also serves as the Chairman of the South-West Security Network, made this known on Tuesday at the Amotekun Headquarters while briefing journalists on recent operations of the corps aimed at flushing out criminals across Ondo State.
He noted that the most effective way to combat insecurity in Nigeria is through the creation of state police, with a strong central supervisory structure in Abuja to coordinate and monitor state commands for efficiency and accountability.
According to him, the ongoing discussions at the federal level toward the establishment of state police are a welcome development, adding that the initiative would mark a turning point in the fight against insecurity and other criminal activities in the country.
Parade of 46 Suspects
In another development, the agency paraded 46 suspects arrested across different parts of the 18 local government areas of the state for various criminal offences.
The Commander said the arrests were made through sustained patrol operations involving border control units, ranger teams, operational squads, and other tactical formations deployed across the state.
He stated that there is “no hiding place for criminals in Ondo State,” adding that most criminal elements eventually get arrested and face prosecution.
Breakdown of Arrests
According to him, out of the 46 suspects paraded:
13 are suspected kidnappers
2 were arrested under the anti-open grazing law
31 others were arrested for offences including cultism, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, burglary, stealing, hooliganism, and breach of peace
The Command also confirmed that some stolen items, including mobile phones and other valuables, were recovered during recent operations.
Kidnapping and Other Operations
The Commander disclosed that several kidnapping cases were recorded in forest reserves and remote communities across Ondo State, adding that victims were successfully rescued in some operations.
He noted that some suspects involved in kidnappings have already been identified by victims and are currently undergoing prosecution, while others remain at large.
Rather than listing multiple disputed or unclear identities, the Command confirmed that several of the arrested individuals are being treated as suspects pending full investigation and court proceedings.
Governor’s Approval on Impounded Motorcycles
The Commander also commended the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his support toward security operations in the state.
He announced that the Governor has approved the conditional release of motorcycles (Okada) impounded for violating the curfew order restricting movement between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
He explained that affected owners will be required to present valid documents and meet specified conditions before collection within 15 days. However, he clarified that motorcycles linked to serious crimes such as robbery and kidnapping are excluded from the directive.
Ongoing Prosecution and Security Efforts
He further disclosed that several suspects are already facing trial in various courts across the state, including magistrate and high courts in locations such as Akure, Owo, and Oka.
He added that joint security operations, forest clearance missions, and coordinated patrols among security agencies remain ongoing to sustain peace across Ondo State.
Conclusion
The Amotekun Commander reaffirmed that Ondo State remains relatively safe due to sustained security operations, urging residents to continue cooperating with security agencies and advising criminal elements to leave the state or face the full weight of the law.
