OAUSTECH Vice Chancellor Prof. Temi Ologunorisa Elected Fellow of Royal Meteorological Society, United Kingdom

The Vice Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Professor Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, FSSAN, FNAHS, FNMetS, FRMetS, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, United Kingdom, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to meteorology and climate science.

The fellowship, which took effect from 13th July 2026, was formally conveyed in a letter dated 16th July 2026 and signed by the Society’s Chief Executive, Prof Liz Bentley FRMetS. The Royal Meteorological Society confirmed Prof. Ologunorisa’s election under membership number 00074173.

In the letter, Prof. Bentley stated: “From this date you may use the post-nominal FRMetS in your professional and other activities,” while congratulating him and urging him to “maintain and enhance the reputation of the Society as well as of the science and its applications by your contributions.” She further encouraged him to utilize the Society’s ACCSYS online Accreditation and CPD System to track professional activities.

Founded in 1850, the Royal Meteorological Society is the world’s premier learned and professional body for weather and climate science. Election as a Fellow is reserved for individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of meteorology or related disciplines.

The international honour comes two days after Prof. Ologunorisa delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of the National Executive Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Abuja on Tuesday, 14th July 2026, where he presented OAUSTECH’s strides as an emerging Centre of Excellence in Marine and Coastal Studies. It also follows his delivery of the latest Aret Adams Professorial Chair in Geology lecture series at the University of Ibadan on Wednesday, 15th July where he spoke on “Agenda for the Development of Blue Economy in Nigeria.”

Reacting to the development, Dean, School of Environmental and Earth Sciences at OAUSTECH, Prof Oladotun Oluwajana, described the FRMetS as “a major international validation of the Vice Chancellor’s scholarship and leadership.” The Dean noted that the fellowship strengthens the University’s strategic focus on Blue Economy research, with doctoral candidates currently engaged in pioneering studies on Blue Climate, Blue Energy, Blue Governance, and Blue Security.

Prof. Ologunorisa’s expertise in disaster and risk management, climate change, and coastal defence technology aligns with the Society’s global mandate to advance weather and climate science for societal benefit.

With this election, Prof. Ologunorisa now holds fellowships of leading academies in the social sciences, hydrological sciences, and meteorological sciences in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, is a state-owned institution committed to producing globally competitive graduates in science, technology, and marine-related disciplines. The University recently secured 100% full NUC accreditation for 18 academic programmes and has graduated over 4,000 STEM alumni.

The Royal Meteorological Society is the UK’s professional and learned society for weather and climate. It supports the advancement of meteorological science and its applications, and the exchange of knowledge across the global weather and climate community.
