The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a Lexus RX350 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) allegedly stolen at gunpoint during an operation in Akure.
The suspects, identified as Adeoba Precious, 31, and Oluwapelumi Babayemi, 30, were apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation by operatives of the Akure Area Command.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the breakthrough followed a report of an armed robbery incident that occurred on July 23, 2026, at about 8:40 p.m. at Advic Resort, Alagbaka, Akure, where armed men allegedly attacked a victim and carted away his Lexus RX350 SUV.
Jimoh said the victim, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, formally reported the incident to the police on July 24, prompting detectives to launch a coordinated investigation using intelligence gathering and strategic field operations to track down the perpetrators.
He disclosed that the stolen vehicle was later recovered intact at the outskirts of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo Campus axis, where it had been abandoned by the suspects.
The police spokesman added that further operations led to the arrest of the two suspects on July 25, with preliminary investigations linking them to a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery operations within and outside Ondo State.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to participating in the robbery. Police also recovered a stun gun loaded with one rubber bullet, a jerk knife and the victim’s iPhone 13 Pro Max during searches conducted at their hideouts.
Jimoh said the recovered items had been taken into police custody as exhibits while forensic and technical investigations continue.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, said the operation demonstrated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention across the state.
The police commissioner assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, recover additional exhibits and ensure that all those connected with the criminal operation are brought to justice.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, assuring them that all intelligence received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
Ohagwu reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property while sustaining peace and security across Ondo State.
