The Ondo State Police Command has renewed its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights through closer collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Ondo State Chapter.
Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, gave the assurance on Friday while receiving the State Coordinator of the NHRC, Mr. Sunday Oyewole Olajire, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
According to the CP, the Command remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the Commission in advancing justice, accountability and the protection of the fundamental rights of residents across the state.
Olajire said the visit was aimed at consolidating the existing cordial relationship between the NHRC and the Police Command, inspecting police facilities and seeking continued cooperation from the Command in carrying out the Commission’s statutory responsibilities.
He also highlighted the Commission’s National Action Plan (NAP) Programme, describing it as a key initiative for promoting and protecting human rights through collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.
The NHRC State Coordinator appealed to the Police Command to support the implementation of the programme and other activities of the Commission across Ondo State.
Responding, CP Ohagwu commended the Commission for its commitment to safeguarding human rights, noting that respect for fundamental rights remains a core principle of professional policing.
He assured the delegation that the Command would continue to work closely with the NHRC to promote justice, accountability and the rule of law.
