Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Murder of 60-Year-Old Woman in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected murderer, Samuel Akoade, over the alleged killing of a 60-year-old woman, Mrs. Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested following the discovery of the deceased lying in a pool of blood at her residence on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
According to the Command, preliminary information showed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.
Following the report, operatives of the Ore Division mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigation. A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the scene was photographed and properly documented.
The suspected assailant, who was initially identified simply as Samuel, reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of the police. However, sustained efforts by the operatives led to the arrest of Samuel Akoade, who was subsequently taken into custody.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix N. Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The Command also reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging members of the public to provide timely and useful information to the police, particularly on suspicious activities within their communities.
